Dungarvan

This was again one of those timing things, I wanted to be in Waterford over the weekend so that I would return to Dublin on a weekday, suspecting traffic might be heavier on a weekend. So that meant I needed one stopover. I picked Dungarvan which would allow me to see a bit more of the south coast.

The bus was late departing. It seems that the driver didn't turn up for work, so another driver substituted. In the course of the journey we made up some of the delay. As usual, Irish towns with a single main street are bottlenecks.

I grabbed a lunch of a haloumi sandwich with fries at one of the eateries.

The B&B was 10 minutes walk away in the eastern half of the town. This shot is from the bridge across the River Colligan.

The room I got was an attic room which was fine, I just had to watch my head with the sloping roof. The shower was in the landlady's room so I notified her when I wanted to use it. Another drawback was that the bedsprings were a bit limp. Ah well, it was one of the cheaper places I stayed in.

I took a nap and freshened up. It was a sunny day so I waited until late afternoon to take an exploratory walk. I would not have time the next morning.

First I headed towards the Abbeyside Strand. Seems it was low tide.

Coastal birdlife.

The harbour.

Walkers and dog.

Wildflowers.

A big patch.

St. Augustine Church and yard.

View from the road.

The boat slip heading towards town.

Dungarvan Castle on the other side of the river.

Boats in the harbour.

More information about coastal birds.

Approaching the bridge.

Buoy oh buoy.

A neat garden on the way in.

Well-tended.

A bee conservation project.

I liked the deep purple colour.

There isn't anything more to report for the day. I bought some sandwiches at a supermarket and took them back to the B&B to eat. The temperature was mild so I went to the parking area with chairs outside the garden where a few men, the other lodgers who had the big room downstairs, were chatting. After that I retired for the evening.
